The sky burst into brilliant light along this lonely stretch of highway in rural Nevada. A late night departure from Las Vegas brought me here en route to the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The area known as “51” is known to be a hotspot for extraterrestrial encounters of spacecraft. Dotted with nothing but kitschy souvenir shops and the occasional brothel, this area of the country is vast and mysterious.
