The Wolf Moon is the name given to the first full moon of our calendar year. Thought to have early European and Celtic origins, the name is thought to be attributed to the lonely sounds of wolves howling in the depths of winter. The Greater Yellowstone ecosystem is home to numerous wolf packs and their ancient calls still can be heard echoing through the long, cold winter nights in Wyoming.
The first full moon of 2023, the wolf moon, sets over the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. It was my first morning in the Tetons and I feel blessed to have been lucky enough to have clear skies! Over the next week of shooting, my luck had clearly run out as almost every morning was quite cloudy and snowy! The Grand Tetons hold a special place in the Rockies and in many a traveler's hearts. Witnessing a celestial event over these mountains is something magical!
