Using a creative technique known as a double exposure I wanted to emulate an impressionist painting to best convey this vibrant autumn scene in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Using my 4x5 field camera I loaded a single sheet of film int the camera and underexposed the scene slightly to compensate for the second exposure. The next shot I would expose the same sheet of film but this time I used the front rise and fall on the lens plate to create motion while the shutter remained open. This double take allowed me to really blend the cameras motion with a dappling of crisp detail shining through.
