To witness the elusive “Firefall” was an absolutely spellbinding experience! This natural phenomenon occurs for a short window in February when the angle of the setting sun aligns just right to illuminate this narrow ribbon of falling water known as Horsetail Fall. Our recent travels to California were focused on capturing this rare event and getting into some different environments while staying isolated mostly in the comfort of our converted Mercedes Adventure Van. On our second night, conditions were just right and we had a great position for shooting! Just as the final rays of sun graced the towering granite cliffs of El Capitan and HalfDome the firefall came alive and glowed as if molten lava was pouring down the cliff face! This will remain one of the most surreal photographic journeys of my career, I hope you enjoy it thoroughly!
